CHINA (WITI) — On Tuesday, April 16th, Governor Scott Walker attended the opening ceremony of the Harley-Davidson dealership in Tianjin, China, as part of his trade mission to China taking place April 13-21.

Brewers’ Yovani Gallardo apologizes for drunk driving arrest

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Yovani Gallardo, a starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, was arrested and cited for operating while intoxicated (OWI), 1st offense early Tuesday morning, April 16th.

According to police, Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled Gallardo over on westbound I-94 near 84th St. shortly after 2 a.m. The witness who called 911 to report this incident indicated the driver’s speed varied between 40 m.p.h and 70 m.p.h. and the driver was swerving in all lanes.

When the deputy pulled Gallardo over, Gallardo indicated he had been drinking at Leff’s Lucky Town in Wauwatosa. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and registered a .22 on the intoximeter (nearly three times the legal limit for driving). Gallardo was arrested and taken to the County Correctional Facility and released at 6:25 a.m.

Operation Drive Sober results in 18 weekend OWI arrests

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — At the start of this year, Sheriff David Clarke ordered an aggressive weekend Driving Under the Influence (DUI) initiative to rid the Milwaukee County freeway system of drunken drivers.

This weekend’s initiative from Friday, April 12th at 6:00 p.m. through Sunday, April 14th at 6:00 a.m. resulted in the arrest of 18 drunken drivers.

Eight of these were repeat offenders, and one of the DUI-1st offenders had five minor children in the car.

Couple wishes they would have done more for children killed in fire

WEST ALLIS (WITI) — West Allis Police on Monday, April 15th positively identified the victims found dead following a fire in West Allis on Thursday, April 11th. Five-year-old Nayeli Colon, four-year-old Adrian Colon and four-year-old Alexis Colon were found dead in the home. The childrens’ mother, Angelica Belen was taken into custody after the fire — and was reportedly not home when the fire broke out.

The faces of these three young children is an image Joe Tyborski can’t get out of his mind. In mid-Marc, he found them alone in a West Allis parking lot.

“The next thing I know, there’s two little boys just walking around back and forth. I looked to my left there’s a van door open. I’m like, ‘okay where’s the parent? Where’s the guardian?’” Tyborski said.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — 25-year-old Jason Jones of West Allis is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. The charges stem from an alleged attack on a Capitol Police officer in downtown Milwaukee on Wednesday April 10th.

According to the criminal complaint against Jones, Officer Greg Friberg was called to the fourth floor of the Department of Revenue Office at 6th and Wells on Wednesday, April 10th. Friberg was told the call was regarding “trouble with a subject.”

Paul McCartney concert to be held at Miller Park on Tuesday, July 16th

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Paul McCartney has added Milwaukee’s Miller Park to his list of concert venues in which he’ll perform on his “Out There” tour this summer. McCartney is set to play at Miller Park on Tuesday, July 16th.

“Concerts are a big deal here. It shows our fans and the taxpayers that Miller Park is not just a baseball stadium. Sir Paul will be performing songs that spanned his entire career — that as a solo artist, that as a member of the group Wings and of course, his time with the Beatles. Wright calls the event an opportunity to see one of the people who developed what music has become today,”  Jason Wright, Senior V.P. of booking for Live Nation concerts said.

Aunt says three children found dead after West Allis fire were “full of life”

WEST ALLIS (WITI) — A West Allis mother was taken into custody on Thursday, April 11th — after three of her children were found dead in a home following a house fire on Thursday evening. That mother is currently in the Milwaukee County Jail. Meanwhile, her sister and aunt to the three children who died shared memories of the young children who lost their lives.

“As soon as I walked in the door they’d yell, ‘Titi is here!’” Nicole Blight said.

Blight says it pains her to know she will never hear that greeting again.
