Transitional Living Services speaks out after woman found dead in West Allis

WEST ALLIS (WITI) — A man has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a woman found dead in the hallway of a transitional home for people with disabilities in West Allis. That man taken into custody is said to have had mental issues, and may have acted out shortly before the woman’s body was found.

Transitional Living Services is the organization from which both the victim and suspect in this case sought resources. The organization works to integrate clients into society, while helping them manage their disabilities. Those who know the suspect in this case say sometimes, that can be tough.

Tom Entringer, who is a resident at the home, says his neighbor was arrested after a 63-year-old woman was found dead in the building hallway. He says that neighbor had a recent outburst — saying the man’s actions were more erratic than his normal behavior.

600 MPS students receive free bike helmets

WEST ALLIS (WITI) — With summer approaching, a lot of kids will soon be out riding bikes.  Every day, though, hundreds of kids nationwide are rushed to the hospital due to injuries.  Many of them could be prevented by simply wearing a helmet.

At State Fair Park Thursday, 600 3rd graders from Milwaukee Public Schools took part in the annual “Winners Wear Helmets” event.  It’s a bike rodeo where they’re taught how to control their bikes, how to use hand signals, and most importantly, how to wear a helmet properly.

“A properly fitted helmet will not move or a not properly fitted helmet will move all over the place,” said Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Deputy Leslie Wachowiak.

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office and Milwaukee Police were on hand to guide the kids.

Real Pirates Exhibit at Milwaukee Public Museum Closes Memorial Day

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Public Museum’s current special exhibition, Real Pirates, will be weighing anchor and leaving port on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2013.  Real Pirates tells the true story of the crew aboard the Whydah, a real pirate ship that sank off the coast of Cape Cod nearly 300 years ago.

Visitors to Real Pirates will see artifacts from the Whydah, including pirate dress items, daily objects, weaponry, jewelry and treasures from all over the world, plus authentic coins that visitors can touch. One of the most striking artifacts on view is the ship’s bell, inscribed “Whydah Galley 1716,” which was used to authenticate the shipwreck site as that of the Whydah.
